The biggest reason is VLANs and QoS: a managed switch lets us separate voice, staff, guests, and cameras onto their own segments and give call traffic priority so it stays clean under load. An unmanaged switch is a black box that just passes everything together on one flat network, with no visibility and no control. Unmanaged gear has its place (extending a few ports in an isolated spot), but for the core of a business network, managed is the right call.
